The Black Keys – Same Old Thing – Single Review

attack-release

Same Old Thing – don’t be fooled by that title, this is literally the best new music I’ve listened to all week.

The publicist for The Black Keys sent me across an email about this new single by the band. (This is a lesson to me to actually read those publicity emails every now and again). Something compelled me to look this tune up on the Internet, and I’m soooo glad I did.

Duffy – Rain On Your Parade – Single Review

rain-on-your-parade

Believe it or not folks, but Duffy has managed to pump out five singles in the last 12 months. And despite a shaky start with Mercy, Duffy has become…less annoying…in the weeks and months that followed.

And so single number 5, Rain On Your Parade, will be released on 17th November. Don’t expect it to be radically different to Mercy – it still has that 60’s soul vibe to it.

How to stalk Katy Perry on the Internet!

katy perry

I suffer from OCD when it comes to celebrity crushes, and as regular readers know, I’m quite taken with Katy Perry at the moment.

In a blast of searching around for info to review her latest single, I’ve come across a ton of ways to stalk Katy on the Interweb.

Like Lily Allen before her, Katy lives her life online, and she uses a stack of social networking sites to blog with video, pictures and all that multimedia stuff. So, readers, grab your infrared binoculars, and I’ll show you how to stalk the seemingly insane Miss Perry on the Internet!

Katy Perry – Hot N Cold – Single Review

katy-Perry-Hot-N-Cold

I find it funny that in Katy’s last video, she was playing the bi-curious angle, but in Hot N Cold one she’s standing at the altar, ready to get hitched.

It seems that you can’t avoid Katy Perry at the moment, coming off the back of a massive hit single and presenting the MTV Europe Music Awards among countless TV appearances.

If you ask me, Perry’s bolshy pop-rock stylings put her in the same league as Pink. Except far more attractive.

Girls Aloud – The Promise – Single Review

Girls Aloud - The Promise

The Promise is the first single from Girls Aloud’s forthcoming album, Out Of Control.

But prepare to be surprised by this track, popwatchers, because after the futuristic, cutting edge pop of the last few singles, The Promise is kind of what you’d expect if Nadine and Co had nicked a fluxed-out DeLorean and gone back in time a few decades.

Razorlight – Wire To Wire – Single Review

wire-to-wire

Razorlight are a band I fell in love with from the first chord of the first song on their Up All Night album.

So, I can imagine a ton of Razorlight fans out there nodding their heads in agreement when I say this single is very highly anticipated. And while part of me was hoping for a rocker of a single, Wire To Wire is simply too stunning piece of work to be disappointed with.

Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother murdered in Englewood

jennifer hudson

Sad news reaches us that ex-American Idol alumni Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother were found dead on Friday in her mother’s Englewood home. Her mother, Darnell Donerson was 57 and brother Jason was 29.

From the reports I’m reading, the murders are being cited as part of a domestic disturbance, and both mother and brother were shot. In a disturbing twist, Hudson’s 7 year old nephew was in the house at the time and is now missing.

To all the comment haters…

As a music blogger, you give opinions. You might talk about a song you like, or a band that’s rocking your socks off. On the other hand, a band may disappoint you with a weak single, or you might express skepticism or scorn at a press-baiting statement. You may simply not vibe with a particular band or style of music.

That’s the thing about music. It creates opinions and makes people passionate about the song, the band, the album. Opinions are, as Socrates once said, as common as assholes. Everybody’s got one.
