Conquest is a weird one. A flamenco style song played with fuzzily distorted guitars, trumpets and a gutsy matador mentality.
But did you know that the song was released in 1952 by an artist called Patti Page. That’s right, Jack and Meg are tipping their weird matador hats to a bygone era in this song.

It’s about time. I’ve been waiting all year for Mika to release Lollipop, which could easily have been the immediate successor to Grace Kelly.
Lollipop is yet another sugary helping of Mika’s delicious brand of upbeat pop music. This time though, it’s part of a double A side package that includes his other camp as a row of tents tune, Relax (Take It Easy).
The Killers have released a new Christmas song, Don’t Shoot Me Santa, with proceeds going to the RED campaign.
First impression? Thank God for a new Christmas tune, one that doesn’t take itself seriously at all, and which has a deranged ginger Santa trying to assassinate singer Brandon Flowers!

Sad to report tonight that Amy Winehouse’s career has taken a further nose dive. She’s been arrested in connection with her husband’s involvement in apparently attempting to pervert the course of justice.
What connects Amy to Blake’s trial is simple: money. According to the story, Blake and his co-accused approached the victim and offered him £200,000 to call the trial off. And where would a scrawny layabout like Blakey-wakey get that kind of money from?
With the Spice Girls looking like dried up, surgically altered old hags, it looks like Girls Aloud are carrying the flag for Girl Power these days. And what better anthem for nu-female attitude than the theme to the St Trinian’s movie?
It’s nice to see GA doing punky and nasty for a change instead of their usual polished videos.

Is Girl Power on the wane? It would certainly seem so, as newspapers reported today that despite the massive hype surrounding the Spice Girls first UK reunion show on Saturday night, there are still plenty of tickets left for tonight’s gig in the O2 Arena.
When the girls released tickets for Saturday nights opening show, the tickets sold out in 38 seconds, the girls then added 16 nights to their London schedule. However, the enthusiasm may have been ill advised, as reports suggest that internet touts are now selling tickets at only a third of their face value, in a bid to get rid of their over stock.
Maybe this lack lustre response to the first Spice Girls tour this millenium, will ensure that it is also their last! I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

I came across this clip of the upcoming Spice Girls documentary, Giving You Everything, that is due to air in the UK on New Year’s Eve (BBC One, 7PM).
The best bit of the clip has to be when Victoria Beckham admits that none of the Spice Girls were the most talented people that auditioned for the band….What a surprise!
Ike Turner died today at his home near San Diego, California. He was 76 years old, but no word has been released yet as to the cause of death.
Most news sources are being careful to remember Ike as a dedicated musician and a legend in his own right. However, you and I best know him for his reputation as a wife beater, as immortalised in the Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It.
Michael Jackson is to reunite with the rest of The Jackson Five this New Years Eve, for a glitzy perfomance on New Years Eve.
The group will put on their show at the Studio 72 club in Atlanta, which just happens to be owned by the Jermaine Dupri, the boyfriend of Janet Jackson.
“It’s the Jackson 5 Party,” Dupri exclaimed. “I swear to you it’s going to be the biggest party this town has ever seen.”
He added: “At midnight I’m gonna empty the whole club and put everyone in the parking lot and I’m going to light the lot up with a fireworks show.”
