Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.

I read over on Billboard this morning that the collaborative venture that is Queen + Paul Rodgers will be releasing their first single together. Called Say It’s Not True, the song is a Roger Taylor composition.

While Taylor performed the song acoustically during the band’s tour, it has been re-recorded with vocals shared by all three members - Paul Rodgers, Brian May and Taylor himself.

It’s All Kicking Off Between Morrisey And NME!

Tags: ,

There’s a possiblity of a legal battle between The Smith’s singer Morrissey and the music magazine NME.

Morrissey is accusing NME of doing a hatchet job on him after a recent interview. The magazine leads this month with the caption “Bigmouth Strikes Again” and an anti-immigration quote taken from the interview.

From the looks of things, NME are sensationalising parts of their interview with Morrissey and - in his opinion - making him look like a raving racist.

Dizzee Rascal - Flex - Single Review

dizzee-rascal-flex

We don’t have too many odes to butt shaking in the UK, do we? Well, thanks to Dizzee, now we do.

There’s certainly nothing refined about Mr. Rascal’s rhymes on Flex. An American hip-hop artist would tend toward smoother, grinding beats, but Flex is ridiculously up-tempo, so the video doesn’t lend itself to slow gyrations. Therefore the girls in the video are shaking their asses like their lives depended on it!

UK Pop Charts - 25 November 2007

Another week, another top 10. Well, except that this week’s top 10 is largely the same as last week’s!

  1. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love: I’ve officially lost count - is it four or five weeks at number one? Either way, Leona’s mentor Simon Cowell is looking pretty smug at the moment. Give him his dues, he’s played a blinder with Leona Lewis.
  2. T2 ft Jodie Aysha - Heartbroken: I groovy bit of urban dance music - dare I resurrect the word ‘garage’? Cute, digitally enhanced stuttering vocal from Jodie Aysha.
  3. Take That - Rule The World: As I said last time, Gaz Barlow and his mates are superglued to the top five with possibly their best song in years. Hats off to Take That.
  4. Timbaland ft One Republic - Apologize: Sometimes I wonder if Timbaland is sat at home surrounded by his own CD singles, buying his own records repeatedly just to get them in the charts. This is not one of those times - Apologize is one of the best ballads to grace the charts this year.
  5. Mark Ronson ft Amy Winehouse - Valerie: It’s time to admit that - rather like Amy’s beehive - this track has seen better days. The shine is wearing off, and I’m itching to hear something new from Mark Ronson.
  6. Shayne Ward - Breathless: I make it my business never to listen to Shayne Ward tracks unless I’m tied to a table with barbed wire with a laser pointed at my testicles. Me: 1, Bond villians
  7. Alicia Keys - No One: Keys’ comeback song is an absolute belter (as is Alicia!) and it’s nice to see her so well received after a period of time out of the charts. By the way, this recently made number 1 in America.
  8. Kylie Minogue - 2 Hearts: I thought this might grow on me. I was wrong, so wrong. 2 Hearts is derivative dirge, undeserving of Kylie. I’ve seen a couple of her shows on TV recently, and she’s still not looking 100%. Is she pushing herself too hard after the cancer treatment?
  9. Girls Aloud - Call The Shots: I can’t remember not being excited about Girls Aloud hitting the charts with their excellent tunes, Nicola’s endearing awkwardness, Cheryl’s ridiculous eye-batting antics and marvelling at how Sarah Harding gets more hard-faced with each new video.
  10. Sugababes - About You Now: It’ll never be my favourite Sugababes track, but having listened to Freak Like Me recently and finding myself slightly bored, I can appreciate the need for the ‘babes to move on musically.

On another note, I saw that Led Zeppelin have entered the singles chart with Stairway To Heaven this week and last. This has been drastically under reported, considering that Zeppelin went to great pains never to release that track as a single. For it to chart on the strength of hype alone (and no video/airplay) just shows how important this band still is today.

Stairway is at No 39 this week, down two places from last week’s position. Well done the Zep!

Single Review: Kelly Clarkson - Don’t Waste Your Time

Kelly Clarkson - Dont Waste Your Time

Ms Clarkson pulls out all the stops in the video for her new single, Don’t Waste Your Time. Taking the role of a rockin’ Sleeping Beauty, walled into a fantasy castle surrounded by thorns, our Kelly belts out another of her pounding femme-rock anthems.

The problem when Kelly goes all rawk like this is that she’s just too damned chirpy. I don’t feel her angst. Drop the act, Clarkson, we all know you’re a wee cutie…

Amy Winehouse Tour Cancelled

Yep, you heard right, Amy Winehouse has cancelled the remainder of her disastrous tour.

There seem to be two distinct lines of communication from the Winehouse camp: the record company is euphemistically claiming Amy has health issues and has been ordered to take complete rest.

However, Amy is tooting a different tune - she doesn’t “want to do the shows half-heartedly”, but feels that without the upstanding citizen that she calls husband, “it’s just not the same”.

The Jackson Five To Tour - Will Al Quaeda Retaliate Again?

Osama-bin-Laden

It’s a little known fact that the Jackson Five reunited onstage at a concert in Madison Square Garden to celebrate Michael’s 30th Anniversary as a solo artist. You all know the consequences - Al Quaeda responded by blowing up the World Trade Center the very next day.

Obviously, the wild Middle East takes the matter of disco-pop reunions very seriously. As a representative of the free world, I urged the Jacksons to reconsider this reunion. However, as the reunion bandwagon rolls on, it seems the Jackson Five want their fair share…

Extreme To Reunite For New Album And Tour

In a year full of classic reunions, most people will gloss over the reforming of Extreme. We’ve been particularly spoiled this year, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for this bunch of rockers.

Nuno Bettencourt, as we all know, has bounced around the music scene, releasing solo efforts and forming moderately successful groups like Dramagods and Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party. Gary Cherone had a short-lived career as the frontman for Van Halen where he was resoundingly rejected by critics and fans alike. He seems to have been doing a fair bit of solo work over the intervening years too.

Sick Note

Ugh. I’m back today after roughly a week off sick. I’ll spare you the gory details, but I’m feeling a lot better now, thanks very much!

Because of my absence, this blog hasn’t been updated in over a week.

I’d like to make sure that doesn’t happen again - if you’re interested in becoming a contributor to Unreality Music, then drop me a line to gerard at unrealitytv.co.uk.
