Yep, Scouserville is MTV’s preferred venue for 2008’s Europe Music Awards. Specifically, the brand new 10,000 seater Echo Arena.
Great news for Liverpool which is also the European City of Culture in 2008, both events tie in nicely together and should attract attention to the City.
Of course, the organisers couldn’t possibly resist the soundbyte opportunity to name check The Beatles along with various Liverpudlian musical acts of varying quality. Bizarrely, they tried to shoehorn Atomic Kitten into their list of great musical achievements.

Funniest story of the day is the news that Kate Moss apparently has writing credits on four songs off the new Babyshambles album, Shotter’s Nation. By the way, if Shotter’s Nation doesn’t sound like the title of a 1970’s British sitcom, I don’t know what does.
Anyway, it seems Kate co-wrote the songs while in bed with Pete Doherty. News sources don’t say if the songs were written in blood or other bodily waste matter. But given Doherty’s involvement, it’s unrealistic to think it was done with a biro.

Despite spawning a number of massive singles, Timbaland’s Shock Value album hasn’t been a critical success. We’ve trawled the web for quality reviews of the album and that many music writers were left cold by the quality of the album.
Should Timbaland stay strictly backstage? Read on and find out.

Ryan Baustert from Throw The Fight has recommended today’s band, A Verse Unsung. They’re a power-punk four piece from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
With most of the members fresh out of high school, you’ll be surprised at how hard these guys rock. Their MySpace profile boasts almost 10,000 fans, and their older songs have been listened to roughly 20,000 times each.
Listen to a few tracks on their pages and you’ll discover a band who can deliver crushing riffs and head-pounding beats. Cali, their most popular track on MySpace is the perfect example. Vocalist Jake Scherer handles the screaming melodically and effortlessly - get to know the words and you too can shout yourself hoarse with this band!

How many times have Backstreet been back in their career? Lost count? So have we.
Tell you what, we still can’t tell the difference between AJ and Howie D.
Anyhoo, they’re back and they’ve brought all those classic Backstreet video moments including clutching at their chest like they’re singing through a massive heart attack. And the ladies’ favourite - the wee blonde one framing his cutsey lil’ face with his index fingers.

The hype machines have been running full tilt for the last fortnight for both Take That and Leona Lewis. While my money was on the ‘Thatters taking the #1 with their triumphant Rule The World, it is the pretty X Factor starlet who rules the charts this week…

How cute! Take Thatter Howard Donald has missed a few shows in the Take That tour due to a recent chest injury.
But to make up for not being on stage in Vienna, Howard recorded a rather sweet little message for the fans, which you can see below.
Don’t worry all you Howard fans out there as he hopes to rejoin the band in Hamburg later this week.
It was well over a decade ago that I first heard 99 Problems by Ice-T. It was in my A Level Art class at school, and one of the guys let me have a listen. It was from Ice’s Home Invasion album, and he was suddenly popular with the metal crew in school because of his Body Count album. That’s what led a lot of us to rap music.
Anyway, fast forward a few years, and 99 Problems hits my stereo again, courtesy of Mr Jay-Z (the similarities in their rap names aren’t lost on me!). Where Ice-T had a real old-school vibe, Jay-Z’s version employs big drums and crunchy, distorted guitar goodness.
Jay-Z’s is also much safer than Ice-T’s. For my money, Ice’s version takes the gold medal for lewdness and sheer brilliance. Whose version do you prefer?

Well folks, good news from the future. According to Simply Red frontman Mick “Ginger” Hucknall, the group will disband in 2009.I don’t have much to say on this news that Dave Parrack hasn’t already said - Simply Red just don’t rate.
What I am concerned about is the total lack of newsworthiness in this. Hucknall has just recorded a solo album, and presumably needs something to wave in front of the press. Obviously a solo Hucknall effort isn’t worth much, so he’s using an event two years hence to attract attention.
Either that or we’re totally overlooking his powers as a fortune-teller.
Take That have had to appear in their latest concert as a three piece after Howard Donald sustained a chest injury on stage. Howard is thought to have developed a collapsed lung after performing a double back flip, proving that age really does matter!
Howard has insisted that the band carry on their shows in the Beautiful World tour without him and vows to return as soon a possible.
He said: “I’m really upset this happened, I’ve never had to miss a show before.”
As the band took to the stage in Vienna last night, Gary Barlow told fans: “Howard would love to be here. We hope you don’t go home disappointed.”
