Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds

Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.

Well, fellow music fans, it’s that time of year: the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. The date is remembered every August, lately with a deluge of re-releases of his greatest hits.

This year’s no exception - aside from other Elvis classics, Suspicious Minds has been re-released and is back in the UK pop charts. I’m not going to get into a big debate about the tune, it’s classic Elvis. Turn your collars up and sing along…

Andy McKee Is A Guitar Genius

Doing a bit of browsing around the interweb this evening, I came across a video clip I’d seen on Glumbert months ago - this guy Andy McKee who’s an unsung Guitar God, plucking away in his own quiet corner of the web.

Andy’s instrumental style is fascinating to watch and listen to - he works the strings with both hands independently, while managing to use the guitar body for percussion at the same time. Here’s the original clip from Glumbert - prepare to be blown away:

KT Tunstall - Hold On - Single Review

kt tunstall - hold on Hold On starts off in a similar way to Tunstall’s previous hit Black Horse Under Cherry Tree - all strumming guitars and reverb-drenched vocals. Tunstall has quite an apocalyptic quality when she sings, and you sometimes get the feeling of foreboding that you might get from a Mississippi blues singer.

Before long though, the song becomes much more upbeat, with a hand-clap backing more prominent than any drums I can hear on the track.

Gossip - Jealous Girls

The Gossip

I think legally no publication in the UK is allowed to criticise the Gossip or Beth Ditto at the moment. Ditto seems to have become an overnight sensation and media darling in the UK. It’s not without substance either, because while you’ll read a lot about her view on weight issues, she’s a disarmingly funny and entertaining personality. I watched her guest stint on the Friday Night Project, and loved her sense of humour.

A History Of Poison (In Albums)

Alongside Bon Jovi and Def Leppard, Poison were undoubtedly one of the biggest names in hard rock in the late 80’s/early 90’s.

Unbelievably, Poison are still together 21 years after their first album - Look What The Cat Dragged In - was released. Earlier this summer, Poison released their 9th album - Poison’d - featuring their favourite covers from their career. Being a fan of their earlier work, I decided to put together this history of the band told using their albums as milestones.

Linkin Park - Bleed It Out

Linkin Park - Bleed It Out

Well here we go for the hundredth time kids, another Linkin Park single, video and subsequent review. Bleed It Out - for the record - is probably my favourite song from the Minutes To Midnight album.

Reasons to love Bleed It Out are legion: it follows the winning Linkin Park formula, it’s one of the few songs on Minutes To Midnight to feature a rap by Mike Shinoda. Oh and it’s got expletives! Yay!

Paramore - Hallelujah - Single Review

Paramore are another of those pop/punk bands that I’ve only just become aware of for the first time through this new single. Based on their musical style and the fact that they’re fronted by a girl - Hayley Williams - they’re going to draw the inevitable comparisons with the like of Avril Lavigne.

However, given Avril’s recent leanings toward pure pop, Williams beats her hands down for rawk authenticity. She’s got a more punk-rock look, and there’s more conviction in her delivery when she sings.

Apocalyptica ft Corey Taylor - I’m Not Jesus

Apocalyptica - I’m Not Jesus

Apocalyptica are a band best known for their string-based covers of Metallica songs. Frustrating for the band, as they’ve been around since 1996 and doing a variety of different things in the intervening years.

Ahead of the release of their latest album, Worlds Collide, they’re releasing the new single I’m Not Jesus, which features Corey Taylor of Slipknot.

Kaiser Chiefs - The Angry Mob - Single Review

The Angry Mob is the third single from the Kaiser ChiefsYours Truly, Angry Mob album. In contrast to the preceding single, Everything Is Average, The Angry Mob is a much more engaging tune and does a far better job of getting its point across. For me, the Angry Mob single (and video) hark back to I Predict A Riot territory and Ricky Wilson makes some great social commentary:

UK Pop Charts - 19 August 2007 Edition

This week, Kanye West knocked Robyn off the top of the charts with Stronger. Not much change in the top 10 though, most of the action is in the lower half of the charts, some pretty good music on the horizon.

Anyway, here’s the top 10 for this week:
